Pathology is at the forefront of the delivery of 21st century healthcare and has a profound impact on an organisation’s ability to deliver high quality, efficient and effective patient care. Changing demographics, rising demand and technological innovation, combined with the findings of Lord Carter’s review, demonstrate the need and potential to improve the quality of service provision, whilst streamlining the way in which services are delivered.

The post is based in the Blood Sciences department at the Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and is part of empath.

The role of a Medical Laboratory Assistant (Bank contract) is varied and involves providing support to the Pre-analytical team.

Work includes clerical tasks such as data input of patient demographics and test request information. The post holder will also be expected to answer telephone enquirers and perform sample reception duties as well as general housekeeping.

We expect you to be a passionate, self-motivated individual who has an organised approach to work with good attention to detail and who can remain calm when busy. You will possess well developed communication and observational skills and enjoy working as part of a team so together we can provide excellent care and quality in a challenging environment.

Previous experience in an NHS clinical laboratory or in analytical techniques would be an advantage but is not essential as full training will be provided.
The work can be repetitive in nature and requires good concentration and attention to detail.
A good level of secondary education is required with English, Maths and Science to GCSE (Grade A-D) or equivalent.
