Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust DIRECTORATE OF CANCER & ASSOCIATED SPECIALITIES (CAS)

Consultant Haematopathologist (Part time)

Applications are invited for the substantive, part time (5 PA) post of Consultant Haematopathologist, to commence as soon as possible. It is expected that the appointee will contribute to the delivery of Haematopathology services to the Haem-oncology unit in Nottingham and the bone marrow transplant centre as well as the region including Lincolnshire, Derby and Mansfield.

The appointee will be required to have Full and Specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the GMC or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.

If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.  If an applicant is non-UK trained, they will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.  They will also be required to have an appropriate level of training and experience in the specialty.

The Histopathology department provides a diagnostic service for Nottinghamshire and has facilities on both the City Hospital and Queens Medical Centre sites. The Haematological speciality has a workload of around 3000 cases a year, two thirds of which are bone marrow biopsies. All bone marrows done in Nottingham have a single integrated report including aspirate morphology, bone marrow trephine, flow cytometry, molecular and cytogenetics. The aim is to be able to provide a similar service to the region in a staggered manner over the next couple of years.

The HMDN laboratory is located at City Hospital site. This includes staining of aspirate slides and flow cytometry. The service is supported by the Molecular laboratory and Cytogentics. The main surgical and the immunohistochemistry laboratories are located at QMC. Multidisciplinary team meetings and clinicopathological conferences are arranged for the mutual convenience of pathologists and clinicians and are held at the City campus or via video link.

This post is a part time post to work 2 days a week but with a potential for full time leave cover for colleagues working in Haematopathology.

Interviews will be held on 20th April 2018.
